Caregivers for people with mental illness are usually behind the scenes, tending to all the details, desperately trying to find solutions, and often forgetting their own needs. Having been a caregiver for many years, I can tell you it is possible for you to come out more balanced, more satisfied, and often healthier.
It is also possible for you to see the inherent sanity and health in your loved one, no matter how unusual their behavior.
One of the keys for moving from crisis mode to thriving is your own sense of balance, connectedness and harmony. The more at ease you feel, the more you will help put your loved one at ease. The more relaxed you are, the more you help your loved one relax. The more you act with a sense of grace and flow, the more you help your loved one do the same.
Caregiver coaching comes out of personal experience and many years of facilitating and running the innovative NAMI family education program in Ann Arbor, MI in which we included both traditional and complementary approaches. As your coach, I help you find ways to go from merely coping to real thriving and resilience. And in the process, you may be surprised to see the positive effects on your loved one's well-being.
